Subject: Petition EN8495 – ABC out of ACON
Dear Minister Wells
I’m writing in support of Petition number EN 8495.
As an Australian, I believe an independent and neutral ABC is essential, Any formal alliance, like the ABC has with ACON, can not only result in bias, but can be SEEN to result in bias.
This perception creates distrust in our national broadcaster.
Please meet with the ABC Board to discuss the ABC ending its alliance with ACON.
Regards

Subject: Petition EN8495 – ABC out of ACON

Dear Minister Wells

I’m writing in support of Petition number EN 8495.

I have enjoyed the ABC all of my life and regard it as an essential part of Australian culture. However, its independence requires having no allegiance to any organisation that could impact news reporting or content. Imagine if the ABC was linked to a Jewish or Palestinian Charity. There would be cries of bias constantly due to this link.
The same applies to the ABC’s alliance with ACON.
I urge you to meet with the ABC Board and end the potential for bias this alliance presents.
Yours Sincerely

Dear Anika Wells MP
I’m writing to support your discussions with the ABC in respect to ending their alliance with ACON. As a member of the LGB Community, ACON no longer represents us or our interests.
ACON has become an activist mouthpiece for the gender transition community which is completely different to the LGB community. Transgender = identity, while LGB = sexual attraction. There are two completely different things. The LGB community is now accepted in Australia while the transgender community requires advocacy and activism.
The ABC should not be connected to any advocacy organisation.
Yours Faithfully

Subject: Petition EN8495 – ABC out of ACON
Dear Anika Wells MP
I’m writing in support of Petition number EN 8495. I didn’t sign the petition as I heard about it too late. However, I agree with it.
The ABC should not be aligned with any organisation that could be seen to influence news. Please discuss this with the ABC Board.
Your Sincerely

If you want to write your own message … Some tips

Feel free to write your own note to Anika Wells to support the petition. If you do, here are some key points to communicate:

  • The Petition asked for the Communications Minister to meet with the ABC Board and urge it to instruct ABC Management to sever it’s alliance with ACON (The Aids Council of NSW)
    • This is because the ABC Board cannot be ‘ordered’ to do anything, not even by the PM. However, it can be urged to instruct it’s management on certain issues.
  • Try not to be critical of the ABC or ACON. It is THE RELATIONSHIP they have that is the issue, not the two organisations.
  • Research has proved that the ACON alliance influences news selection and reporting.
  • The BBC and Channel 4 in the UK severed their alliance with Stonewall – the ACON equivalent. This was due to the potential for bias and selective reporting.
